Uttar Pradesh Govt Establishing 2,700 Smart Classrooms To Modernise & Digitise Education In Urban Areas

The Urban Development Department of Uttar Pradesh has embarked on a significant initiative to enhance and digitize education in the state’s urban government schools. As part of this endeavor, over 2,700 smart classrooms are being developed at an estimated cost of ₹324.56 crore. This project aims to provide students, especially those from economically weaker sections, with access to modern, technology-enabled education, thereby fostering digital empowerment and improving enrollment rates across the state. The smart classrooms are being established under various flagship schemes:Smart City Mission: 1,183 classrooms have been developed at a sanctioned cost of ₹160.83 crore, with 1,088 already operational.Kayakalp Initiative: Approximately 190 classrooms have been established with an investment of ₹57.66 crore.Aspirational Cities Initiative: 913 classrooms have been sanctioned at a cost of ₹29.43 crore; 408 are currently operational, while 505 are under construction.CM Abhyudaya Composite School Scheme: 25 special classrooms are being built.Vaishvik Nagaroday Yojana: 13 smart classrooms have been sanctioned.Additionally, ₹4.25 crore has been allocated under Kayakalp projects for further classroom development. These smart classrooms are equipped with interactive digital boards, multimedia learning content, and high-speed internet, making education more engaging and effective. According to Amrit Abhijat, Principal Secretary of the Urban Development Department, this initiative is not only connecting students with technology but also preparing them for the future. The effort has led to a noticeable improvement in student attendance and enrollment in urban government schools. Since the campaign’s inception in 2022, more than 65% of the approved smart classrooms have become operational. As a result, the enrollment rate in government schools has climbed to 59.6%, approximately 15% higher than the national average. The use of smart classrooms has also improved students’ learning outcomes and substantially reduced dropout rates.The Uttar Pradesh government’s initiative to modernize urban education involves constructing 2,700 smart classrooms across the state. As of now, approximately 1,780 of these classrooms have been completed and are operational. This effort aims to provide students, especially those from economically weaker sections in urban areas, with access to modern, technology-enabled education, thereby enhancing digital empowerment and increasing enrollment rates statewide.A significant portion of these classrooms—1,183—have been developed under the Smart City Mission, with 1,088 already functional. This development was achieved at a sanctioned cost of ₹160.83 crore.In addition to the Smart City Mission, other schemes contributing to this initiative include the ‘Kayakalp’ initiative, under which around 190 smart classrooms have been established with an investment of ₹57.66 crore. The Aspirational Cities initiative has sanctioned 913 smart classrooms at a cost of ₹29.43 crore, with 408 currently operational and 505 under construction. Furthermore, under the CM Abhyudaya Composite School Scheme, 25 special classrooms are being built, and the Vaishvik Nagaroday Yojana has sanctioned 13 smart classrooms.These smart classrooms are equipped with interactive digital boards, multimedia learning content, and high-speed internet, making education more engaging and effective. This comprehensive approach not only strengthens digital education but also significantly enhances the quality of education in urban Uttar Pradesh.
