Harshit Rana’s Surprise Stay in England Sparks Talk of Test Squad Shake-Up

Fast-bowling all-rounder Harshit Rana is making headlines after reports confirmed he will remain in England with the Indian Test team, despite not being named in the official 18-man squad for the upcoming five-match series against England. Rana, who was part of the India A squad touring England, featured in a four-day match against the England Lions and an intra-squad game in Beckenham. While his performance—1 wicket for 99 runs and a gritty 16 with the bat—was modest, sources suggest the team management sees potential in keeping him close as a backup option. The decision has fueled speculation about possible last-minute changes to the squad, especially with the first Test at Headingley just days away. Rana’s presence could also be strategic, offering depth in the pace department alongside Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and others. Though it remains unclear whether Rana will be officially added to the squad, his continued stay hints at the selectors’ willingness to keep their options open. India, led by Shubman Gill, are aiming to clinch their first Test series win in England since 2007—a feat that would mark a strong start to their 2025–27 World Test Championship campaign.
