What began as a romantic getaway ended in a chilling betrayal. The mysterious death of Indore businessman Raja Raghuvanshi during his honeymoon in Meghalaya has been solved, revealing a premeditated murder orchestrated by his wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, and her lover, Raj Kushwaha—who had been posing as “Sanjay Verma.” Police uncovered that Sonam and “Sanjay” exchanged 119 calls between March and May 2025, both before and after her wedding to Raja. Investigators later confirmed that “Sanjay Verma” was an alias used by Raj, an accountant in Sonam’s family business. The couple had continued their affair in secret, with Sonam allegedly saving Raj’s number under a false name to avoid suspicion. After marrying Raja on May 11, Sonam lured him to Meghalaya for their honeymoon. On May 23, the couple vanished after checking out of a homestay in Nongriat. Raja’s body was discovered on June 2, and Sonam resurfaced in Uttar Pradesh on June 8, eventually surrendering to police. Authorities say Sonam hired three hitmen—Akash Rajput, Vishal Singh Chauhan, and Anand Kurmi—to carry out the murder. Her cousin reportedly paid the first installment for the killing. All suspects, including Raj, have since been arrested. The case, which initially appeared to be a missing persons report, has now become a national talking point—highlighting how digital forensics and call records helped unravel a web of deceit and murder.
