‘I don’t want to…’: Jasprit Bumrah himself opens up about giving up about captaincy role of the Indian Test team

Ace fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah was seen as a strong candidate to take over India’s Test captaincy following Rohit Sharma’s retirement from the format. However, he was not chosen for the role. Recently, Bumrah has opened up about the matter himself.Prior to the upcoming five-match Test series against England, scheduled to start on June 20, Jasprit Bumrah spoke with former Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik in an interview on SkySports. During the conversation, Bumrah disclosed that he had personally opted out of consideration for the captaincy.For those who may not know, Jasprit Bumrah has been grappling with injury issues for quite some time. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that he will not be playing in all five matches of the upcoming Test series against England.Captain Shubman Gill will lead the side, with Rishabh Pant serving as vice-captain and wicketkeeper. The team also includes Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudarshan, Abhimanyu Easwaran, and Karun Nair in the batting lineup. Nitish Kumar Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja, and Dhruv Jurel (wicketkeeper) bolster the squad further. All-rounder Washington Sundar and pace options Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, and Arshdeep Singh bring depth to the bowling unit, alongside spinner Kuldeep Yadav.
